Rien Poortvliet

Rien Poortvliet (1932-1995)

Rien Poortvliet saw himself as a drawing storyteller. His drawings tell the story for the most part, at most with a small title or inscription. His complete portfolio can be called at least impressive: from farm life and hunting to the GNOME’s works. He summarized everything in realistic drawings that immediately showed his love for nature.

Rien Poortvliet’s drawing talent manifested itself early on and he quickly established himself as an independent illustrator. He is best known to the general public with books such as: He was one of us, Along the garden path of my fathers, Good, The Brieschend Paard and The Call of the Gnomes. All his books were enthusiastically received and gave him national and international fame.
