Rien Poortvliet, the artist, the nature painter.

About Rien Poortvliet

Anyone who loves nature will love the work of Rien Poortvliet. He liked to get out into nature and then paint all that beauty in his studio. Many of his paintings are about hunting, farm life and animals of all shapes and sizes. Rien Poortvliet was an outdoorsman, hunter and painter. He understood better than anyone the art of bringing you into contact with the beauty and peculiarity of life on earth. He saw himself as a drawing storyteller. His drawings tell the story for the most part, at most with a small title or inscription. His entire portfolio can be called impressive to say the least. He summarized everything together in realistic drawings that immediately showed his love for nature.

He was also able to put himself like no other in situations that occurred in the past. This can be clearly seen in his well-known and beloved book Along the garden path of my fathers .

In Hunting Drawings , the hunter’s love for the wild is beautifully expressed. And The foxes have holes is a beautiful and instructive book by Rien Poortvliet about the doings of wildlife in our country.

In Te hay en te gras, Rien Poortvliet looks back with nostalgia on traditional farming and rural life. A book about farmers, ranches, livestock and much more. Beautiful drawings that have now been used, among other things, on a beautiful service.

Other books that got great fame are Braaf , The brieschend horse  and  Of the  chop on the branch.

And then of course there are the gnomes! Together with Wil Huygen he made two very popular gnome books, The life and works of the gnome and The Call of the Gnomes, of which  the first  was in its 61st edition. Poortvliet gained international fame with the gnome series.
